New lurker here with a question

#1 Post by crankshop1000 » Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:55 am

I have an older ('92) 20' Sweetwater pontoon that originally came with a Johnson 28 SPL motor. Being that I use the toon on a large river system with some current, I upgraded to a 75 hp Mercury two stroke. The original setup was for two 6 gallon plastic tanks strapped to the rear platforms. Believe it or not, this setup uses less fuel than the 28!. I'd like to move the tanks forward or replace the two portables with a single 12-15 gallon tank mounted foreward to take some of the weight off the stern (the 75 is a lot heavier than the 28). I already beefed up the motor mount ,so there is plenty of strength for the 75. Anybody mount a tank under a seat or have any ideas? Thanks-Chuck.

Welcome Chuck!

I haven't seen one under a seat doesn't sound real safe to me. :2cents
My 26 gallon tank is on port side I beleive most are setup this way it offsets the weight of the helm so you shouldn't experience much list.

I forgot to add we Love pics!!! And location in signature. You'd be suprised how close some of us actually live to each other.

There are tanks in about any configuration you can think of so you could probably find one that can be center mounted under the deck between the crossmembers. I agree that you should not mount one under a seat for safety reasons.

Overtons alone has quite a few the check out:

I've got one mounted under the seat of my fishing boat. You can put gas tanks anywhere as long as you have proper ventilation. Let me know if you want pics and I'll get some up.
