Has anyone ever......

#1 Post by my99svt » Tue Jun 16, 2015 7:14 pm

I'm thinking of buying a decent tent and cutting the bottom out of it. Using this as an enclosure over my front bimini for camping on the boat. Maybe using a window unit a/c in it at the dock. Anyone done this or anything similar?

Just a thought.... I can walk upright under my bimini. A tent would have to have a lot of headroom to cover a bimini.

An A/C would certainly make it more comfortable dockside!

I have no idea on the model or make, it came with the toon but the doors are on either side, kind of where the side door of the toon is. You just sort of roll up the one end that is on the front to go in and out.

I found this one on sale today. It'll be here next week and I'll try it out next weekend.

Please post pictures when you get it done. I have that exact tent and it is a Great Tent but I am having a hard time thinking thru how it will work for what you want to do. Have you thought about just covering the area with good mosquito netting over the Bimini? I can help you with that solution and it works great!!

Well it worked like I had planned. I cut the floor so I could slide it over my rear Bimini. It was very comfortable in the Oklahoma heat. The only problem is that when we get back to the dock, it's dark and hard to see well enough to get it up correctly. And when I finally get it setup I'm so drenched in sweat that I'm miserable!

So as I did this for a few weekends, I realized there was an easy solution to fix this problem!!!

If you're willing to drop the cash a good canvas shop can make you a proper enclosure with removable side,,,,

How about something like this....

Not to threadjack, but is it ok to do this? Its not hard on the pontoons in any way? Having them touch the land like that.

Yes, it's OK to beach your toon as long as it's soft sand with no hard or sharp objects that could puncture a toon
