Motor upgrade?

#1 Post by Breauxtroy » Wed Jul 01, 2015 6:20 pm

Hi folks, I have a 92 26ft San Pan with a hard top. I currently have a Johnson 90 hp. My max rating is 115, and I am considering upgrading. Has anyone done an engine upgrade similar? If so, how much better was your performance?

Welcome !

I went to college in Lafayette in the 70's! great place and fine people!

It is my honest opinion that a 115 wont help you much over a 90 with a two log boat!

What you have right now is a displacement hull, a few more hp wont get you much better speed.

Now you go to That Aluminum place in Broussard and get them to form you a hull(like I did) and put you a motor mount on it. Then the 90 might get you on plane and speed will come!

Bon jour mon amis !

Welcome. I'm from Eunice.

I have a 22' with 115 Yami 4 stroke. Best speed I've seen on my toon is when I trailer it to the ramp. Lol.
28 is fastest I've had it on the water. I'm currently looking into lift strakes/center log.

I agree with Rcg Texas.

Randy,
Didn't know you were a Rajin' Cajun from USL. Spent most of my life after HS in the nearby Red Stick and graduated from the Ole War School. Geaux Tigers! I love and miss the Cajun country.

RcgTexas, once a Cajun, always a Cajun. USL is now ULL( University of La. Lafayette). Football program is finally winning.
How has you 3rd toon worked? Have you notice a difference in speed? Would you do it again? Thanks for the 2 cents.
