Need help, new regency 220dlx. Cavatating and tilt issue

#1 Post by Xscash » Thu Aug 06, 2015 6:49 pm

Hey guys, new here. Just upgraded my 2011 party barge 21 to a New Regency 220 with a 115 comand thrust. Dealer installed an aluminum prop and the cavatation was incredible. The motor is one hole from the lowest setting but can't go lower because the arms from the hydraulic steering will hit the transom. They installed a new stainless prop and it still cavatates. The leg on the motor is 20" and that is what the boat calls for. This boat has 26" pontoons. You would figure at almost 40k for a boat they would have their act together. I had a machine shop mill new arms for the steering so it could drop to the last hole, but I doubt this will help. If I trim at all, any touch of the trim, it spins the prop. Dealer is saying that "some boats you cannot use the trim". At 40k I would think I should be able to use the trim while driving. Any advice?

Pictures?

Are the props that have been tried the right size and pitch?

Try a 4 blade Mercury Spitfire prop 13.8X13.
BTW, I have a very good prop setup and I can only trim up about 25% before I start to lose bite.

Here is the arms on the steering, it has a trim stop so it won't impact the transom pod. The prop is a 5x15 I think. It's a 15pitch and larger than the normal bigfoot prop.

I cannot touch the trim at all withoutthe prop blowing out. The new stainless prop was $800.00. They are trying to fix it, but should this boat have these kind of issues? It's brand new. Makes me regret selling my 2011!

I will find out the name of the prop today. I haven't bought anything except the machine work for the new arms, the dealer is doing what tracker says to do. I'm just pissed that this is being worked out on my boat, where is tracker/Regency R&D? I'll post some pics later when I pull the boat to lower the motor to the lowest hole.

I had this problem with my new 22DLK Fishn Barge. First problem was the wrong prop. Corrected that but still had an issue and found removing the little 'V' on the bottom of the motor pod totally fixed it.

Here is a similar thread. A few post down the first page shows the V on my setup.

As I understand it, the Command Thrust lower unit is basically a 150hp LU on the smaller motors (75- 115) which appeared in either 2013 or 2014. This could change the hydro dynamics of the setup of the motor pod that was designed around the earlier motors with a smaller LU.

Just a guess...

There is no way I am the only one having this issue.....there must be other Regency owners out there with similar issues.
The new milled arms for the steering worked great but the steering plate did not line up properly, ill need to fab another one.

Most pontoon boats use 25" lower units. The exception is the boats using the original Yamaha SHO motors when they just came in 20" versions commonly used on bass boats. Manufacturers had to cut down their transoms 5" to use the SHO's.

Yep, any Tracker dealer should have known which motor to put on that boat.

$800 for a stainless prop? You can get an Enertia prop for $479 online.
