Probably stupid questions but I gotta ask

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. We bought a 20ft Sweetwater last year and enjoyed it immensely. This year we tore it down to the plyboard and replaced the flooring (vinyl and I love it) and new seats. In the process we discovered that our plaque that gave the weight and passenger limits is unreadable. Is it a requirement to have this on the boat and if so, how do I get a new one. We have a 40 horse Yamaha motor and would like to have a larger one so we can go a little faster. How do I find out how big a motor I am allowed to have. Thank you
