Pontoon painting?

#1 Post by SMarshall » Tue Aug 25, 2015 11:19 am

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with painted pontoons? I do not mean anti-fouling paint. This is for appearances. Looking at a StarCraft that has the upper portion of the pontoon painted black. They look great but I was wondering what effect saltwater would have on the appearance? I sure they clean up but do stain/streak when the water dries? Do they fade?

Make a post with pictures if you do it. Been thinking of painting mine " river mud brown ". I'm tired of washing mine every week.

Yours looks great, I'm also wondering how they hold up. I'd like to see one that was done a few years ago.

I was wondering the same thing...... WHY aren't more toons painted??? Saw a tri toon the other day with flat black toons..... was stunning on the black and silver boat.

I'm about to get mine acid washed and sealed with Sharkhide in the next 2 weeks...... if the look isn't consistent I may switch to painted toons in the future.

Any one done this???

Someone has a new Sylvan RST hulled boat on our lake, and it's painted black below and the fencing is also black with colored stripes. It's not at all attractive and almost has a stealth look to it. Painted toons might be okay, but not in black.

Yep..... I agree..... wouldn't choose black myself...... I'd go with a bright SILVER..... look like new toons.... just wonder how it holds up over time???

I have detailed directions on the painting of my logs on my rebuild thread at the pontoonstuff forum. We'll at lest there used to be l.o.l. You can see pics in my abbreviated rebuild thread here at this site. My logs have been painted for years an still look great. Actually just waxed them yesterday ! It is probably the biggest compliment I get about my old boat.
