Looking at buying a trailer for my tritoon

#1 Post by flossy2150 » Wed Aug 26, 2015 1:39 pm

I have a tritoon (see sig for the details) and I did not buy a trailer with the boat because the plan was to keep it on the lift and I would only have to pull it out for storage in the off season. I'm in VA where it snows a bit and I really don't want the boat outside if I can help it so I need to buy a trailer to store it in the off season. I am going with the bunk style trailer with 3 bunks.

The boat is 2,100 lb, motor is 466 and 60 gal fuel tank adds about 400 lb - so total weight will be pushing 3,000 lb. I sent emails to various trailer/marine dealers this week and got several quotes. Here are the details for each...

1.) Venture (Vantage Custom Line) -- 4000# $3952.00

2.) Road King (Aluminum Tandem Pontoon Trailer) -- 4450# $3600.00

3.) Load Rite (24T4100102HTRIB1 galvanized and adjustable center bunks) -- 4100# $3,964

4.) PMI Marine sent me two quotes...

Flote-On Pontoon Trailer
Tandem Axle, Four 13" Tires, 4500 lbs
Capacity. 18' Bunks, 28' Overall
Length, Dual Wheel Tongue Jack
Heavy Duty Trailer w/ no brakes -- $2265 + $299 bunk kit = $2564.00

Same trailer with brakes -- $2755 + $299 bunk kit = $3054.00

The first 3 quotes are all from local dealers. The 4th is from a manufacturer that sells direct in Indiana. I am in VA but could conceivably make a road trip to go and pick it up.

My questions --

Who else would you try to get quotes from? Any gotchas I need to look out for?

With a total weight of over 3000 lbs, trailer and load, you must have trailer brakes in Va and most other states.

I bought a center lift trailer from PMI
www.trailersforpontoons.com check out their web site for a lot of info on choosing the correct trailer
Great people to deal with, even came in on Saturday so i could pick up my trailer without having to take time off work.
I would highly recommend them.

good luck

I agree. I have one of Paul's Mid-America triple bunk type trailers for my Bennington and they've been a pleasure to deal with all along the way.

They will deliver using contracted drivers,
Most customers pick up at their location
You can also pick up in MO if that is closer

Even if it is not required by law in your state, I would highly recommend getting brakes on whatever trailer you get.

I agree. It is required by law in my state (VA) for anything over 3,000# gross weight. I got a little more info on the Venture trailer...
