Bennington pricing questions
Ok guys, Here goes nothing... Priced out a 2016 Bennington 24 SSLDX (aft dinette) with SPS package (3 high perf. tubes) and 150 Yamaha. MSRP is right around $60k. I have a bunch of options: floor locker, designer vinyl, privacy chaise, porta potty, diamond pressed pillow top upholstry, GPS, 1/2 camper enclosure, bow filler seat, extended rear deck, tow bar, coffee table with hidden cooler.... Dealer quoted me almost exactly $50k. Any general thoughts on the deal? Not sure what the margins are for Bennington, I'd imagine somewhere around 35% (dealer cost vs. MSRP).
Any other advice on the boat, options, etc is welcomed as well! Thanks!

Re: Bennington pricing questions
The margin isn't like cars and such. It depends on a lot of factors - time of year, locale, factory promo's, engine factory promo's, dealer commitments on inventory purchases and pre-sold orders, product mix etc. Other than lower end, low margin boats, the mainstream ones like your "S" example 20-25% is fairly reasonable. Under the right circumstances you can get a bit more, if in stock, leftover stock, demo's, etc. but that's a pretty good rule of thumb.Emsflyer84 wrote:Ok guys, Here goes nothing... By the way, that's a very nice boat for all around use. SPS and 150 is the sweet spot.
Good luck!

Re: Bennington pricing questions
SeeDealerCost.com indicates there cost of a Bennington boat is 85% of list price. That's not counting a trailer. Whether or not that's accurate when an engine is unknown. It would appear that dealers can also receive factory sponsored sales incentives from time to time, especially when they're doing Fall order writing.
It's hard to give a price opinion as I've been out of the retail market 3 years. Sometimes you've got to shop numerous dealerships and play one against another to get the most favorable price. If you go to BoatTrader.com, it's not hard to tell which dealers are willing to sell boats at lower prices than others. You'd have to get on the phone and get some price quotations.
The price quoted is substantially more than I paid for my boat, but you're getting just about every option. S models have more upholstery choices than they used to have.
Let us know what area you live in, and someone may chime in with dealers in your area where they got good deals.

Re: Bennington pricing questions
Thanks guys, this does NOT include a trailer. We dock, winterize, store and launch the boat all at the same marina. No trailer necessary. Unfortunately I'd be doing some serious travelling to find another Bennington dealer, so I'm not inclined to save a few bucks, but have my dealer support a day's trip away. I'm in central New Hampshire, and the dealer is very reputable, so I'm inclined to trust what they are telling me. Right up front it looks like around 20% off MSRP, and we haven't started negotiating yet, so we'll see. Thanks, sounds like I'm not way out in left field on pricing anyway....
Re: Bennington pricing questions
I wasn't going to chime in but for a fellow NH guy why not. I was going to buy a new one last year but the dealer would not budge on anything he had to order. Then latter I found out it was because they were not carrying Bennington any longer. Is it Winnisquam who caries them now? If so the have a superb reputation. I think the reason the price is so high is the time frame. There are some great prices on left over 15s right now, not around here so much unfortunately. It's hard to get a good price when the boats not built yet. Like was said above there may be some dealer deals going on but it's not even show season. If the boat came with a 200 or 250hp the price would be more inline. There's also something to be said for ordering exactly what you want, you'll pay more but get what you want. $60,000 is absurd, at least he came down from that. if you find a similar boat from another builder you may have some leverage. Good luck.

Re: Bennington pricing questions
I think that's a pretty fair price! If you got this price at Winnisquam Marine, you couldn't be getting it at a better or more reputable place. The price they quote is normally "out the door" with no hidden cost such as, dealer prep, tax, title and freight. This is the best price I could find online with a similar boat to what your looking at and this price does not include any of those hidden charges that will be added... http://www.rivercityboatsales.com/New-I ... on-1437464
What I can tell you to ask them for is an extended warranty on the motor like an additional 2 years from the factory. That would be a really nice perk for them to throw in! If not for free at a very reduced cost like $150.00 or less. They get coupons from the dealer as incentives and if you ask I bet they will throw it in.
Again, I think that is a very fair price for that boat!
Good luck!!

Re: Bennington pricing questions
Thanks guys, I know the 60k is high, but that's MSRP from Bennington with the options I've got. I would be happy with a 2015, but it's hard to find one, let alone with the options we want... Dan, good to hear about Winnisquam, we'll mention the extended warranty on the motor, that would be great.
