OK, I've looked in all the manuals I have and came up with a blank.
When you replace the alternator belt on a Merc 115 4 stroke, is it necessary to remove the flywheel?
I have a new belt, but it doesn't look like it can fit over the flywheel. Of course, my owner's manual says "have it replaced by a factory authorized repair facility" or some such drivel.

Do you actually mean timing belt? It appears your engine has a stator charging system which doesn't include a belt. Anyway here's a decent service manual for your 115.

Nope. It has an alternator driven by a belt, which rides on a pulley under the flywheel.
It's squealing a little bit, from time to time, and that makes the Admiral unhappy.

Here's the page from the owner's guide. My 115 4 stroke (a 2012 model) is obviously different than the one in your maintenance manual link:

Well, of course, I could just try to fit the new belt over the flywheel...
I just haven't had the new belt in hand at the same time I've had the cover off, so I figured I'd see if anybody here could answer the question. Both the boat and the belt are about 30 miles from my current location.
