Hope these pictures work. Took the cover off my 2004 Yamaha 60hp 4 stroke and found this just laying inside. No writing on it, just a round piece of plastic. Any idea what it is?

Well the item on the left is a .25 piece otherwise referred to as a Quarter.

They might be making them out of plastic now, but most of them are a combination of metals.

The item on the right however might be a dickfer.

Looks as if it's what left of a snap cap that was utilized to cover or fill a hole.

Image

Description for the one above; 1/2" White Plastic Flush Type Hole Plugs 7/8" Head. But they are available in a variety of sizes.

That's a "round tuit"! some thing you need when your wife asks for honey doos.

The other is hard to say, since I built my boat I have seen very few of those.

Seriously Bamby nailed it!

That's what I thought Bamby. It doesn't look like the bottom is broken off but it could have just been worn smooth then failed. I've looked for a hole, adjustment screw, nut, anything it could have covered and still no luck. No telling when it came off since I haven't had the cover off for months. I'll keep looking. Maybe it will show up on the diagrams at boats.net.

Who knows were it came from. Maybe someone at the factory was throwing it around and it landed in your engine compartment and nobody noticed. Possibly something that came into the factory from a component vendor. Probably doesn't even go to your engine. Let us know if you find out. Whoops, sorry for the double post. My bad.

Charlie sheen would be the man to ask? Seems he has a lot of experience in uses of a dickfer

While you can't tell by simple visual inspection, that round "plastic" disk is actually a toroidally oriented subatomic keynesian transmogrification pulse amplifier. If you don't have the rest of the Antarean space ship that it came from, just toss it out - you won't be able to use it.
