I have a 25 foot toon with a 150 engine. What size and type anchor is recommended for the river in the Laughlin Az area? I threw a 14# fluke type down with 14 feet of chain and it didn't slow me down in a 6 knot current.

I use a box anchor (size small) on my boat and think this is a very popular option. Are you trying to stay inside in the channel or sandbar? Staying in the channel will be tough pending on water level and flow. The box anchor should be fine on a sandbar or close to it, most use the spike as well to be safe. The Colorado can be very tricky with changing water level and flow during the day.

It depends largely on the type of bottom you have, rock, hard clay, sand or gooey pudding mud. my lake is hard clay for the the most part with some gooey pudding mud. my 30# Dansforth fluke and 60 foot 0f line in 12 feet of water has held my 25' full cabin 3times when the tornado sirens went off. it is really all about the bottom and the amount of rope you put out

My wife and I took our boat out there last summer.

The water below the dam was fast with a rocky bottom full of hazards once we got past the casinos. We boated there for about 2 hours before we went up above the dam, just not relaxing enough for us. All of that said, our small box anchor held just fine.
