Today, I got a call from the dealership that repaired my mercury...

As you've read, I've already picked up my boat and have a receipt showing no monies due from me, to the dealership. On the receipt, all areas for amounts say "WARRANTY", and Total Due line reads $0.00

I am satisfied with the parts/labor provided.

He said that Mercury company denied the repairs, under my extended warranty. Had this issue occurred under original warranty, it would have been covered. They said that Mercury deemed these parts to be expected to wear out.

So, they want me to pay <about> $350.00 for the repairs, since Mercury won't reimburse.

What's y'alls opinion? I guess legally, I owe them nothing. But, they did the work, and they paid for the parts. I'm no lawyer, but I have stayed in a Holiday Inn....

What would you do?

1. Tell them to go pound sand - they told me no cost to me, so they get to swallow it?
2. Tell them I'll pay the entire amount?
3. Split it with them?

The hard ass in me chooses option 1.

The wise man in me chooses option 3 provided they are nice, do good work (relative to other dealers), and are the only convenient dealer that is close, nice, and does decent work.

I'm no lawyer and I can't give legal advise but I'm thinking they told you no out of pocket other than the 50 deductible because they figured the Merc folks would honor the warranty, so I donnno :donno

the part that bothers me is
He said that Mercury company denied the repairs, under my extended warranty. Had this issue occurred under original warranty, it would have been covered. They said that Mercury deemed these parts to be expected to wear out.
The underlined part makes me uncomfortable. unless those parts are stated to not be covered, what gives?

if you like the shop and operators try to deal with them if you don't want to go back at merc.

Thanks for the input, BobL & RcgTexas

This is the first time I've been to this dealership. It's huge... It's one of a couple showrooms under the same company, that deal with several brands of boats/motors/jetfleas, and such....

The guys i dealt with there seemed to be friendly enough, and seemed to want my business - even though i didn't buy my boat from them....

I put them on hold for now, telling them that wife's about to start her chemo (yep, shitty breast cancer), and Christmas is just around the corner.... They said they'll call me back, around the 1st of February, to talk about it again....

( Mercury company denied the repairs, under my extended warranty ).......

So what good is an Extended Warranty I read that as an Extension of the Warranty, plain and simple.

The dealer should have gotten approval from Mercury before he started work ?? Looks like everyone will be taking a hit on this. Best of luck to you.

God Bless you and your wife. I've heard that many times about the extended warranty.

Dang, .. what to do? If we had been talking about Singleton Lake Lanier, they can pound sand IMHO.

However, SIngleton Oconee was real good to me, correcting what Lanier had rigged wrong with my Mercury. There were a couple other issues with the Harris they stepped up and took care of, no questions asked, after my pleading with the Lake Lanier folks went no where fast.

Sorry, I know I wasn't much help.

Oh, but this is a helpful comment... it was Singleton Oconee, and indeed they seem to be friendly and helpful. If they were a bunch of asses, I would have told them to pound sand. I'd probably do business with Singleton Oconee again, depending on how this issue plays out.
