Battery Tender

#1 Post by HawkTX » Mon Dec 14, 2015 11:53 am

My pontoon will be staying at the slip on a lift year round and I need to get a battery tender. Anyone using this one? Good or bad? What brand do you use?

When I had a Harley I used them religiously in the winter (Battery Tender brand). They work great so don't hesitate to buy one. Just keep it dry if it will be outside.

Will do. My slip is under a roof and I will have the cover on as well. It says it is water resistant, but it will be dry.

I have this Battery Tender and it is waterproof. I've had it 5 seasons and it has gotten rained on countless times. Works just like it is advertised and I have been very happy with it.

Whatever you do, don't buy the cheap crap. I had one at work catch fire and burn, luckily we were there, or it would have burnt the building down.

Years ago my son in law gave me one of those cheap battery tenders from Horror Freight for use on one of my bikes. It didn't last very long at all to which it completely drained my battery down to absolute ZERO voltage. I was amazed that it did not cause a fire or trip the circuit breaker. Lucky that that the battery was an all but new Interstate and accepted charge again. It just really surprised me when I checked with a volt meter and the battery was completely flat line.
