Re: New 'toon owner
Got all the stringers cleaned up for the new deck....
New plywood down.... Unfortunately "marine grade" plywood wasn't in the budget so I went with arauco exterior grade plywood from Lowes...
My laborers.....
I painted it on both sides with Valspar "duramax" paint....
I originally was going to go with carpet but now i'm thinking about just going with an "anti slip" paint so nothing retains moisture...

Re: New 'toon owner
I wanted to paint the exterior in a bright yellow, but again, my budget won't allow me to use a good automotive paint and an etching primer so I'm looking for a cheaper alternative... Has anyone used Rustoleum paint? Will it adhere to the flat panels ok?.. My railing is in pretty good shape so I would just clean it up some but the dark gray and the stripes have to GO!!!

I think when I remove my carpet I'll put the bed liner material on the deck, water proof, anti slip and you can get in many colors.
We had a guy who built his whole pontoon from scratch and used the bed liner and loved it, then him and his wife built a hell of a great log home and got so busy with the home haven't heard from him in a while , but they should be done by now, or maybe picked up a bigger project.

Rustoleum clean metal primer and then plain old Rustoloeum will adhire to aluminum fine as long as it's above the water line. I used it on my '68 Starcraft Cheiftain back in '99, it held up for many seasons and I repainted again last season.
Bottom, topsides, etc. are painted with Duraback (this spring) and it's held up excellent so far.

That looks like it would work GREAT, but just like sHan said.... a bit pricey...
Awesome, that's good to hear..badmoonrising wrote:Rustoleum clean metal primer and then plain old Rustoloeum will adhire to aluminum fine as long as it's above the water line. I used it on my '68 Starcraft Cheiftain back in '99, it held up for many seasons and I repainted again last season.
I can't tell if the side panels are galvanized, painted, or what...
I was trying to find a way to get the ancient vinyl striping off and hit it with a wire wheel which took off the stripe but would not penetrate beyond it...
I just have to find someone with a decent power washer, my little one at home was kind of getting it off but would take forever..
Thanks,
Doug
Re: New 'toon owner
I went to the farm store and bought "equipment enamel" in the rattle can and did the red stripe on my toon, so far its held since last year and hasnt faded any... i thought of it because if its tuff enough to use on the farm it should hold up on the toon its about 5.00 a can but i think i only used 2 cans for mineBoatally Insane wrote:That looks like it would work GREAT, but just like sHan said.... a bit pricey...

Re: New 'toon owner
I got the center console mounted today, then started painting....
I hit the side panels with a powerwasher then a wire wheel to remove most of the vinyl decals...
Then I primed and painted the sides with Rustoleum...
Unfortunately, I DON'T like the way it turned out...
The color is pretty close to what I was looking for, but for some reason it still looks "old" to me....
I think I need to paint all the railing instead of just the side panels to get a more modern look....

Looking great. How about some pinstripes you can get at auto supply. Diff sizes and colors might make a big difference
