#1 Post by chopper6358 » Sun Feb 14, 2016 9:14 pm

i'm interested in repowering my 24 party barge with a new mercury 115 4 stroke, is there anything good or bad i need to consider before i purchase? i presently have a 2003 90 hp johnson 2 stroke. its still a good motor,, just getting hard to start and uses a lot of gas. also i want to replace my bimini tops with 2 10ft x 8ft tops. what is the best? thanks

$9k for a motor is a lot to spend on such an old boat. It'd have to be in pristine condition before I'd want to repower a boat of that age.

If you go thru with it, Jacos is selling that engine for $8K not including rigging, controls or prop.

I was looking at that same motor for my old boat along with new furniture, top, and carpet. I had the same thoughts about whether to spend that much on a 27 year old boat or just get a new one. I really wanted more performance as well and ended up buying this.

It really just comes down to what you want and how much you want to spend. If the bought is in good shape and you know you will be happy with that new motor then go for it.
