Black streaks

#1 Post by Fritz » Tue Jun 02, 2009 7:23 am

I had a lot of black streaks on the sides of my toon. I tried everything to get rid of them. Mean Green, Magic erasers, high dollar black streak remover, nothing would touch them. I had a can of MEK (Mythel Ethol Ketone) in my camper for some reason that I do not remember. The MEK worked like a dream. The black streaks wiped right off. It did not affect the factory decals at all. The boat registration numbers were affected though. The side panels were still shiny. I am going to wax the side panels next weekend. I highly recommend using MEK. Just test it on a small area first. I used a cloth and wiped the streaks right off, then washed it with soapy water. I got the MEK at Ace Hardware for $6.99.

MEK is serious stuff. i've used it to clean stains on aircraft that nothing else would touch.
i got it from a plant that processes a lot of paint and solvents. i didn't know you could
even buy MEK at a store.
