Fuel Tank

#1 Post by Bchaisson » Thu Mar 03, 2016 5:31 pm

I have a used 2015 Encore Bentley 243. It will not take fuel normally. Takes 20 minutes for 5 gals. First owner said dealer said normal. I call bull s@$t. There is a vent running through a box of some type,( filter gas fumes maybe) then to the outside. Anyone had this problem?
Thanks for input.

certain gas pumps suck, Try finding a place without the spring to high up the nozzle. I don't know if that's your issue, but for me I have a handful of stations around that I can't use, Of course those are also the biggest and easiest to traverse. Every attendant that I speak to at marinas say pontoons are the worst by far to fuel while afloat.

Modern fuel tanks have done away with the air vent that went thru the hull or fencing. They have a 1" filler neck that will spit fuel back at you (out the filler neck) if you fill'em too fast.

Get under your seat and see if there is any hoses that are bent down. If bent up, the hoses take fuel a little faster.

You can always modify the fuel system and add the air vent back to the outside.

I haul fuel to my boathouse--saving big $ on every tank full. I'm now using a Gas Buddy with 14 gallons on wheels. I cut off the pump on the hose and drop my boat below the level of the tank. I'm letting the fuel drain on its own by gravity--not having to wrestle 50 lb. Jerry Cans for 4-5 minutes apiece. It works well.

Thanks for replying. Fill is 1 1/2" had check value. Removed it and pliced vent line to bypass charcoal filter to see if that will work.
