Might be a silly question, but what would be a "good" size for 22' toon. Big lake with little or no current. Mostly mud bottom. What ya'll think??

I've had a bunch of anchors and read about the box anchor on here. I figured I would give it a shot and it really is unbelievable. I had trouble with a danforth style anchor for a couple days of scalloping in the gulf when it was pretty windy. I was willing to try anything and bought the box anchor and will never go back to another style for a pontoon boat. These boats have a lot of freeboard and blow around like a sail in the wind. I keep two in my boat since we boat to a spring area here in Florida a lot where you have to anchor your boat perpendicular to the current. I have a medium and a large. I found them online, then called Overtons and had them price match. At the time they had 20 or 30% off so they tacked that on also, so be sure to shop around if you go with the box.

I have used several different types as well. and the only one i would buy over is the box anchor. The box anchor holds my 25' tritoon very well. and i would also suggest their shore spike as well if you beach.

I've had pretty good luck with Danforth style, but you have to set them by reversing down and helping them bite into the bottom. 3 or 4 feet of chain is necessary between the anchor and the rode. Lot of boaters here love the box anchor. Next time I need a replacement, I'll likely try one.

I always had good luck with Danforth style anchors in terms of holding power. However, in our lake, they tend to get hung up and you're forced to cut. Anchors themselves weren't too expensive, but it hurts the wallet to replace good quality anchor line and chain. Our last trip of 2015, I had to cut my 2nd one in 1.5 years. Decided to buy a nice box anchor....haven't used it yet but hoping to have better luck retrieving. Heard nothing but good things about them. Fingers crossed!

+1 for the box anchor. We boated every single weekend between memorial day and labor day last year and there was only 1 time that I had to reset it

How versatile is the box anchor? We have mostly mud/muck on the Chesapeake Bay and rivers, but have some rockier areas on the Potomac that may not be as soft.

Also, do you need a length of chain? What's the recommendedm scope?

Looks like a great replacement for the rusty mess that came with the boat.
