Scrub your Toons While Swimming?

#1 Post by Mosnowman » Thu Mar 24, 2016 8:24 pm

So I have used Aluminum Bright (NAPA Parts) and cleaned most of my toons during the off season. My question is what type of chemical free scrub brush/pads work the best while coving out? I figure I could get the very bottoms clean with the right pad/brush while swimming in the cove around the boat. Thoughts?

I bought a scrubber made by Black & Decker at Menards. It come with a medium duty pad but the sell a heavy duty pad which I use at the beach. They are held on with heavy duty velcro I think and are easy to replace. They do a great job.

Does a great job on the toons. I actually use it on the inside parts of the toons also by walking underneath the boat front to back. Of course I have 27" logs so there is ample room underneath.

Here at the links for the brush with medium pad and the heavy duty pad. When they get full of algae just shake them underwater to clean them out.

Just issue everyone in your party their own Scotchbrite pad. At places like Lowes/Home Depot, you can get them in different "grits".

Here is what I found that works:

1 - Insert six pack of your favorite beer in the following vessel (that is full of ice).

2 - Wait until beer is acceptably cold.

3 - Invert life vest and step into the holes designed for arms (wear life vest like a diaper)

4 - Enter water with the following:

Rope (to tie the ice chest to your life vest)

Nylon Pot Scraper

Beer

Koozie

5 - Scrape 2 foot section of bottom of toon with Pot Scraper then take a sip of beer.

6 - Rinse and Repeat until toons are clean.

7 - Once toons have been cleaned using the pot scraper, follow-up with Scothbrite Pads. The Scotchbrite pad cleaning is helpful but really just another reason to stay in the water and keep drinking beer.

The plastic container that elec. tape comes in will peel the scum off like a razor, and usually stick on there by suction if you lose your grip....and beer..agree with above.

I keep some large plastic spatulas as well as large green 3M scrub pads in the boat so when the urge should strike to swim, drink & scrub I have little excuse other than to bring the beer...
