Pontoon Boat & Deck Boat Forum

Hey guys and gals...hoping somebody has some experience and could provide some advice.

I'm in Phoenix where the sun destroys everything. I'm fortunate enough to have free boat storage at my buddies house. Unfortunately, the boat isn't protected with anything more than the original cover that came with the boat. These things run around $1000, so I'm not interested in buying a new one every few years due to sun damage. My buddy also parks his RV back there which is always getting abused by the sun.

We've started to discuss the possibility of having a custom carport ordered that would house both toys. Has anybody done this? Do you recommend a particular dealer? Any pros and cons that we need to be aware of based on your experience?

These carports can get pretty spendy in the dimensions that we need, so we'd like to do it right the first time,

You can also go online to price them at websites like carport.com. Specialized installers put'em up in one or two days.

My cousin has one with sides and a back end large enough to house his motorhome. It does a good job.

The trouble in many neighborhoods is that they have a HOA, and those wonderful people don't allow such structures in their feifdoms.

My only concern is that he's a friend, and half of an oversized carport could still be quite a big of money. But pontoons with the engines on the rear and the trailer tongue on top are really big rigs. And carports also need a 12' ceiling because the boats are very tall when on top of a trailer.

Around here carolina carports is one of the most popular. I ordered mine through redbarnhomecenter.com and it was built by a company out of Georgia. Youll have to find a place like this in your area. I went with a 24 wide X 36 long X 11' legs. My boat is 10'2" high at the corners on the trailer. I got the high wind rating also, I believe it was $4300 installed with one gabled end and two extra panels down each side.
