I'm getting 24 mph now with my 2006 Optimax pontoon is rated for max of 90 .
What will 15 hp really gain me? Is it worth the hassle. My opti is mint and doesn't miss a beat.and is great on gas but if a 90 gets me closer to the 30 mph range it would be nice.

Re: 75 hp vs 90 hp
Both engines are basically the same, with ECU flashing being much of the difference.
The 90 hp might allow you to run a higher pitch prop which would give you slightly more top end speed and it would possibly be quieter at cruise speeds.
An option that would save you money would be to get Simon Motorsports to reflash your ECU for $650--for all the horsepower the motor can put out. Not only do his ECU flashes put out more speed, but the drivability of the engines is also much improved.

Is there any other things you have to do when you flash the ecu ? Or is it just plug and play.

Re: 75 hp vs 90 hp
My best guess is you may gain 3mph. I don't think 15 more horses will give you 7 more mph.
I wouldn't do a repower for only a 15 hp bump if everything is fine with the motor you have to gain 3mph.
Curious what you come up. I've played with programmable ECU changes on cars but never on the boat. Who knows you may be able to get the gains that way. They usually aren't plug and play to gain more power, you play with fuel and air ratios, set maps and reflash. Mega Squirt makes some great car units, the ECU could be plug and play but not the maps or controller settings. They might offer some boat options.
