Which spark plugs for Honda 90 ?

#1 Post by cobblestone1820 » Sun Jul 17, 2016 10:30 am

I have a 2013 Honda 90 HP (BF90DKLRTA) . I am going to change the plugs the end of this year and the owner's manual recommends either the Iridium plug IZFR6K-11E or the standard plug ZFR6K-9E NGK. I know the Iridium lasts longer and costs more but any recommendations? Are the ones that you can purchase at NAPA, Auto Zone, or Advanced the same as the ones that you purchase from Honda that cost twice as much?

Also on motor oils, the book naturally recommends Honda 10W-30 or if you can't find Honda oil, just make sure it is an API either SG, SH, or SJ specs. Do you recommend going with the Honda oil which is $7.95 quart or a 10W-30 such as Valvoline, Castrol, Pennzoil, etc.?

Any of the name brand iridium plugs (NGK, Bosch, Denso, etc) that are the correct part number and heat range for your engine will work. They will last far longer than standard or platinum tipped plugs. No more often than they would be changed, the cost difference becomes negligible. I also run them in my Tahoe as specified by GM.

I use Quicksilver 4-cycle marine motor oil. Walmart, marine and many sporting goods retailers carry it. You'll hear others saying to use any 10w-30 automotive oil, and it may all that's needed. I just feel better using an oil specified for 4- cycle marine engines. The few extra dollars it costs are worth it to me.

Thank you for the info. Our Walmart carries the Quick Silver but not in the 10W-30 wgt.

Do you have an Academy Sports nearby? Here's a link where they offer free shipping with a minimum order.

I got an email recently offering Honda oil for less than Quicksilver...until I looked at their shipping charge.
