first newbie mistake...forgot anchor down

Well, it only took a month and a half of owning a boat, but I made my first mistake. We were out anchored for a few hours, and when it was time to come back......I just started her up and went underway. It was after we docked is when I realized my anchor was missing. We have a deckhand 40 electric anchor (awesome by the way)....and I totally forgot to raise it before we left.
Good news...all I did was break the rode and loose the anchor. Winch works fine, and it didn't swing back and hit the pontoon or motor or anything. Could have been much worse!

I have at least 6 on the bottom from getting snagged to tossing anchor out and rope was to short. I failed to hold on to rope as it deployed.
Glad no damage to deckhand

The bitter end of my anchor rope is passed through the opening in my bow cleat and has a figure 8 know to prevent me from doing the same...
Wish I could remember to pick up that dang swim ladder though!

my first newbie mistake was the day of purchase....
slapped some sharkhyde on... drove to lake, backed it in, tied to dock, parked truck, untied boat, tried to start it..... fudge. where's the key??? IN. THE. TRUCK....
so, as we were floating away, i grabbed a rope, jumped in, and swam the boat back to the ramp... <only had short distance to go>
luckily... no witnesses, other than my wife.....

Not the first one to do it. And, wont be the last. No one got hurt, no damage to the boat then all is well!
It's a good reminder not to spend a bunch of money on fancy anchors. Sure they grab great. But, when it gets snagged or stuck they're just an expensive bottom decoration.

At the lake I use couple yrs back as the lake was going down I saw a guy walk in the rocks , he said he was looking for anchors, said he sells them at the flea markets for $10.00 to 50.00.

I have a friend that dives, people with expensive anchors hire him to retrieve them. Others he finds he sells at his dive shop
