Speedometer not reading correct Sylvan Pontoon

#1 Post by ron1952 » Fri Sep 23, 2016 4:46 pm

I'm new to pontooning !
I have a 2007 Sylvan Sport 115 hp Suzuki Outboard
It appears my speedometer is not registering correctly
At 6000 RPM it only shows 18-19 MPH
I assume the speedometer uses a 1/4" tube going to a device under the boat

I cannot find where it is !!!
Anyone know where sylvan puts this device under the boat?
I'm thinking its partially blocked off (Its 10 years old)

Or do they use another means of getting the speed?

Thanks for any info on this
Ron

Sounds like something's not quite in line. First, check the true speed using a GPS app on your phone. If it's close, then you may have the wrong setting on your tach. Usually there is a switch that sets the pulse count to read properly. You may have a problem with the speedo, the tach setting, or both.

The pilot tube for the speedo is built into the Suzuki lower unit, the hole should be a few inches above the nose cone
