Fix chipping paint on console?

How would you fix this? My boat is a 2014 and it had the beginnings of these issues when I bought it. They're pretty unsightly, especially when the rest of the boat looks pretty much new. So how would you fix this? Take it somewhere? I don't think and autobody shop would deal with this... or would they? Its definitely not car paint that needs to be used. It needs to be something that is good for being touched all the time, and having stuff set on it a lot.

Ouch, I think the only way you can assure this doesn't continue is to remove from deck, sand the whole thing and respray

FYI. Need to use the "IMG" tags. I believe the picture posting problem has been fixed. (or maybe not....I thought the quote problem had been fixed too. :-) )

That's on a 2 year old boat? What brand is it? I want to definitely avoid that brand. Has a solvent or chemical spilled on the paint and ruined it? Have you contacted the manufacturer? I would start there.

Your best bet, as another posted, if the manufacturer won't step up and repair it is to remove the console and have it professionally sanded and painted. An auto body shop could do it. The polyurethane paints they use will stand up to almost anything. Think of all the weather exposure and abuse our vehicles take yet the finish holds up for years.

I agree, that's pathetic for a 2014. Is it a Bentley? If it is I can't believe they're having that problem again. If it's not, I apologize to the good people of Bentley.

If it is only two years old I would get up with the dealer and manufacturer would think it is under warranty still.

Agree with the above. Most manufacturers we looked at gave 5 year bow to stern warranties. I'd call the dealer and have them fix it.

Ok I will check it out. The brand is Veranda. I asked the dealer to check it out when it was first starting, back when I got the boat. They said that they checked with veranda, and they wouldn't do anything. Maybe the damage was too small at the time, who knows. I'll ask veranda and the dealer once again.

Not sure why the paint has peeled so quickly but I expect them to make it right. From what I can tell, Veranda is the pontoon section of the Xpress boat company. Which is a pretty good aluminum flat bottom boat maker. It looks like they make a really good pontoon now with an aluminum floor they weld to the toons themselves. I would imagine the rest of the boat structure will last forever.

THat sucks. If a company won't stand behind their product (that hasn't been mis-used or abused) then they know their product is crap to begin with.

It looks like the roto-mold part(s) weren't properly cleaned prior to painting. But then, I haven't seen any roto-molded parts painted either.

I would guess that any good fiberglass repair place could abrasive blast it and repaint it.

Uhhh. I'd be reading my warranty and calling the dealer.

Too bad they paint when its so easy to tint gelcoat.
