Mercury 115 sale question?

I have a 2012 Merc 4 stroke 115hp motor with under 100 hours on it.
I want to upgrade to a 150hp motor but I don't know how to try to sell this motor.
I think I would be better off trying to find a buyer before removing it from the boat so it can be test run.
What is your opinion and how should I precede on this quest.
Thanks
Dan

The obvious is Craigslist or Ebay, but you'll have to wade through a lot of nutcases, lowballers and scammers.

Check with your local dealers. Mercury often has promos for re-power, which will give you a break on the cost of the 150, plus they should take the 115 in trade.

Come up with a price in your head of what you want for the 115 and see if Merc can come close to it. It may be worth the difference just not to have the hassles of selling it. Maybe you can barter some with the cost of rigging the 150.

Like a car dealer, quality marine dealers are in business to take trade in's. They very often have customers that choose to go up in horsepower.

They might want to check the out with a scanner and/or even a dyno to make sure it's in tip top shape. FYI: My local dealer is selling the 150 FourStroke engine for $10,400 and Mercury pays installtion for repowering.

Otherwise, you could advertise it in BoatTrader.com or BBCBoards.net (bass fishermen).

Wish you lived closer. I would take that 115 problem off your hands...
