Trolling Motor Battery Storage

I'm about to buy a trolling motor to install on my boat. It is a Lowe SF214, which has a battery storage up front and pre-wired for the trolling motor. I have decided I would like at least a 70# thrust motor. The trouble is that the box up front only has room for one battery. It would have enough room for two, except there is a built in tackle box that is built in to the same area as the trolling motor battery storage. I'm curious what other people may be doing in this situation?? Thanks.

The batteries need to be next to each other. I had a similar issue and for a 24 volt system, the batteries need to be close. Cut the tackle box... You are only asking for voltage/amp problems the farther you place the second battery.

Having them separated on either side was also my plan, can it not be done with appropriate size wire? 4ga?

I'd really hate to have to cut the tackle box. I'm going to look and see if I can pull the box and put the cover back on so it looks right from the outside, but not sure if that's possible.

Just curious if anyone is running smaller batteries maybe. Or, running bigger batteries separate with a heavier wire to the further battery like boocat noted below.
