Pontoon log weight??

#1 Post by aquaholic » Tue Nov 22, 2016 10:32 am

Talking to a guy at our marina the other day and he was thinking his 25" center log with dual strakes was around 380lbs. He says he can't really remember though and got me thinking what they actually weigh.

I know there are a lot of variables, brackets, log size, aluminum thickness, integrated transom for center logs, etc. But lets say an average 24' long toon with 25" diameter logs with or without strakes your choice. Discuss.

That sounds about right. The guy I am buying new logs from said his 24' x 25" dia center pontoon weighs about 350 lbs.

About 5 years ago I bought a new aftermarket 3rd toon with a motor mount. The place I got it from called it a motor pod? 15' long (due to trailer issues) 26 or 28" round, no strakes. I was somewhat surprised by the lack of weight. Pure guess, 150 lbs?
I was able to arm-strong it into position by myself, using milk crates. Then with 2x4's jacked it into place. The new toon was thinner (aluminum thickness) than what the boat came with. Strakes will add to it... but that much? You have me now thinking?

380 lbs. would sound about right. My Express Tube is about 250 lbs but it doesn't include any fuel tank.
