We've had two deaths already for this holiday on Ky Lake. Some guy ran a bass boat over a pontoon boat and killed a woman on it and injured another person. The bass boat went up on one side, across the deck and off the other side. The guy had been drinking. Two families lives messed up in a flash.
Another guy fell off a boat dock and drowned. He had been drinking also. I hope the rest of the holiday is better. Ya'll be careful out there this week end!

5 cases reported so far by the MSWP.
4 were at Lake of the Ozarks
OPERATOR WAS BACKING THE BOAT OUT OF THE DOCK. HE PUT THE BOAT INTO GEAR, THE ENGINE REVVED, AND STRUCK THE DOCK. MICHAEL WAS THROWN OVERBOARD. HE SUFFERED A LACERATION TO HIS ELBOW. MICHAEL'S WIFE, CINDY WAS ALSO THROWN OVERBOARD, BUT WAS NOT INJURED.
Victim was jumping a wake from another boat. When victim landed he received an injury to his back. Victim was transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital.
Boat struck a wake which caused victim to come out of her seat and landed in the boat causing her back injury.
THE BOAT WAS UNDERWAY WHEN THEY STRUCK A LARGE CROSS WAKE WHICH ELEVATED THE BOW AND THREW THE PASSENGER OUT OF HER SEAT. SHE STRUCK HER HEAD, AND WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AND RECIEVED A LACERATION TO HER HEAD.
One on the Mississippi River
SUBJECTS WERE RETURNING TO HIS MARINA WHEN THEY STRUCK A CHEVRON WING DAM. THE BOAT BECAME STUCK AND STARTED TAKING ON WATER. SUBJECTS WERE TRANSPORTED TO ST JOSEPH HOSPITAL IN ST CHARLES.
Those wakes at lake of the ozarks must be big

Bruuuuce - They can be big. When one sees a 55 foot cruiser plowing down the lake, ya just pucker up and brace. My pontoon takes them a heck of a lot better than my old deck boat. One just has to slow down well before ya hit the wave and slide over them.
One of the incidents was in a rental run about (the next to last one). My guess is that the operator had no clue on what to expect.
There was a you tube video of a cruiser wake hitting a dock at the 50 or 65 mile marker. The last time I saw it. it being played upside down.

We went to the fireworks on our lake tonight.
Great show! The Game Wardens had set up No Wake Zones for 1 mile in either direction from the fireworks site. It worked great until the show was over and 1000 boats got outside the No Wake Zone and took off. Half of the boats were missing at least 1, if not all 3 Nav lights and a lot of idiots were running with their docking lights on. No matter how much they preach about safety, there are still itiots everywhere.

No problems on the Upper Chesapeake this weekend. We rafted up at Sand Island and saw the fireworks there. Beautiful night out

This sort of thing (struck by prop while boarding) is exactly why I designed mine with full rear seating and put the retracting ladders on the sides at the gates. Those gates are right where I can see them from the helm so I always know where my swimmers are.
When approaching a swimmer in the river, I get myself downstream of them and turn sidways so the swimmer floats right to my side and the ladder. I can watch them all the way in.
Even so, while I need the motor running to hold position my hand goes to the key when they get close.

Thank goodness our lake never gets as busy as some of you folks. Had a great weekend, tubing, swimming, cruiseing and watching fire works Sat. night. I have rear ladder and ALWAYS turn off motor when pulling tube in or swimmers start back to boat.

I couldn't agree more. Would you want to board a boat with the motor running right next to you? Sucks for the girl. Hope she is alright.
