Throttle response

So I have a new to me 2007 Bentley pontoon with a mercury 90 horse 4 stroke. I drove one of their pontoon a few years ago but I can't remember the throttle part. So if you say neutral is that the 0° mark and full throttle is at 90°. So if I move the throttle to say 10° and it engages the forward Drive but the engine doesn't pick up speed until I get to maybe the 60° Mark. So basically it goes into forward right away but then I've got 45° worth of throttle movement where the engine doesn't do anything but idle. I've only had muffs on it so I didn't get it up to full throttle. Does this sound normal? It does the exact same thing in reverse also.

Seems to me a long stretch of throttle movement with out any change. You may have to look at the throttle cable and check any adjustments or even replacement. Check your throttle position on the motor side and mark when it starts to open.

I think you'll have to try another's to know for sure, Mine does it too, but it's hard to explain. my friends as well. it's probably fine but check another.

That's what I thought, but what I didn't understand was that it goes into gear right away. I'm going to find some schemetics for the remote box and see if there's some adjustment. Does anybody know, is there a shift cable and a throttle cable?

thats normal and how it should be, the dead area is to allow for over travel when shifted into gear before it the motor rpm pick up

Yes it's a cable for each function, yes there should be adjustments on both ends of the cable. As the above poster states you want some dead area in there.

Ahhh. So it's when you put it gear your not immediately running at half throttle. I guess that makes sense. I'll have to try it out this summer and see.

as long as you get to your max rpm's at full throttle it's fine , mine does the same thing once you get use to where it starts to pick up rpms
you will be fine

Super easy to check. Pull your cowl off and yank the flame arrestor off the carb or throttle body. Have someone move the throttle from neutral to WOT and make sure the buttlerfly opens all the way at the end of the stroke. The motor doesn't need to be running. And if the lower unit won't let it go, spin the prop and the shift dog should release to let it slip into gear, to move the throttle. Easy to adjust the cable if it doesn't open all the way, a lot of OB's have thumbwheels at the motor end of the cables.
