Bunk Board carpet for trailers

I am re-doing my bunk boards on my trailer. I had asked here about composite and decided against it. Bought some pressure treated 2x4s, then stained them for extra protection.
I am trying to put the carpet stuff on them but I can only find 12' rolls while my boards are 16' long.
Any suggestions on how to seam these? Do I just fold an end over and over lap. Should overlap be highest so it doesn't catch going forward or should I have seam so it is easier to back out? Do you all sew them together or just staple them with overlap? I am leaning towards having high end on back so when pulling in, it is easier. Does anyone sell 16+' carpet rolls for these bunk boards?
TIA (Thanks in advance)
Lee

The stain will help, but you could add some oil while looking for carpet for them. I have used teak oil and also Watco (pretty sure HD and Lowes carry the Watco).
Found this site although never purchased from them. Looks like they have a lot of stuff though.

Eastern Marine is 10 minutes from my house, their store is impressive and they have just about everything in stock.

West Marine has it in 18' length

if the link doesn't work go to
www.westmarine.com and in the webpage search bar type bunk carpet and it was the response I got, they have several in 12' but one in 18'
Hope that helps.

I have been told before not to use pressure treated boards for the bunks, it will react with the aluminum. Is this true? I need to replace my bunk boards also

You have to cover the treated lumber to protect logs. Carpet provide that.

Why would you stain the pressure treated wood?

the stain will help repel the water especially if it is oil based. penetrates the wood much like the watco oil i suggested. my dock is pressure treated and built in 1980 with no treatment added since it was built, looking weathered but still serviceable. pretty sure the treatment process of treated lumber has change some since what used at that time.

The same stain or water-proofing sealant that keeps water out also keeps it in if there are any entrance points when you submerge the bunks. Seems risky; is this common to do?
