Have someone stand on the bow of the boat as a counterweight.

Does the tilted motor and trim cylinders come out of the water?

If so, it might be a weight distribution problem.

I'm a big guy.

My motor clears the water when tilted unless I sit in the back of the boat to have a beer and do some fishing.

And I keep my motor tilted as the lake we're slipped at has zebra mussels and I don't want them clogging up the motor.

Yesterday's results with the new 15.25 inch, 15 pitch aluminum prop: on fairly smooth water and trimmed out perfectly, I made 32mph by GPS WOT @5450 RPM. My trim gauge indicated just over 3/4 raised at the ideal crusing speed. So, I gained 2 mph with raising the engine one notch with the new prop. It was difficult to to tell exactly where the cavitation plate was at cruise due to spray but it appears to be running under the surface a few inches. My fuel needle barely moved after a few hours running so I'm hoping it gets better after a few days of lightening the load.

I doubt the fuel will make more than 1 mph difference.

You could probably move the plate up a little more and try it...I like the plate to be right at the surface when running wide open. Too much and you will cavitate in turns when trimmed out probably...

I'm beginning to wonder if that's the correct size/pitch aluminum prop for the boat. The dealer said that's the one that they'd been having success with on my model but shouldn't I be seeing higher RPM's at WOT when it's trimmed correctly? 5450 RPM and 32mph still seems low. To be clear, I'm not looking for a speed demon here, I just want it to be set up properly. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Bottom line is you should be at 40mph, There doing something wrong. Bama's boat probably weighs more or around the same as your's, he's hitting 40 you should at least be at 38mph. I understand that different toons will act differently, but should be in the same ball park.

Get a Enertia 15 pitch prop and watch your speeds go to 37-38 mph...
Ditch the alum prop, it's only good for a spare....

I am in a quandry. I have an SS prop and an aluminum prop-both are 16 in pitch. Both have been worked on twice--rehubbed, fix nicks, etc. Aluminum is always 1 to 2 mph faster than SS.. Never happened on any boat I've ever owned. But aluminum prop wont last a week on my lake so I keep it as a spare....

Yeah it's strange that I actually gained 2mph with the aluminum prop but it could be attributed to raising the motor up a notch. I'll probably end up putting a stainless prop back on it at some point plus I'll likely have the dealer raise the motor to it's top mounting position when it goes in for it's 20 hour initial service. I put a call into the dealer about the trim limiter possibly needing adjustment but haven't heard back from them yet. When I look at the attitude of the other fully trimmed up motors in my marina, mine doesn't seem to be angled up as much. I believe there is room for adjustment and that it was set conservatively due to my tow bar. I appreciate everyone's input so far.

I just got a Veranda 2275 with a Yahama 175 Vmax and when docked ith lower unit is in the water about the same as in his photo. I am not sure if I have a 25" lower unitor not.

Still breaking in the motor an have only had it up to 4500 rpm getting 30 mph gps with two adults. It should do 40+ at 6000rpm.

That Veranda looks like a 20" motor, but I cannot be for sure. How does it make tight turns without the engine trimmed all the way up? Okay? We'd be interested to hear how that engine performs after break in, as we have not seen many such boat/engine combos. Most have had F150's or F200's on them.


Many boats that come with a 20" motor have transoms built for that height lower unit.

My Bennie has a 25" motor and it's set up 3/4" off the transom--one hole. When I trim the lower unit up to 3/4 level, it ventilates a little in a straight line upon accelerating--just like I like. When I trim the lower unit down and go into a tight turn, it doesn't ventilate at all--just like I like.
