Ok Went to WallyWorld and bought a new air bed and a new 12vdc air pump for camping at the lake. Which we did this weekend and it was fandamntastic. Anyway.. I pulled the new air pump out and plugged it into the 12vdc outlet on my boat in order to pump up the air bed. The pump would not work because the outlet on my boat was a marine 12vdc and the end on the pump was for a cig. lighter. Luck was on my side, the neighbor had an adapter with gator clips so that I could hook up direct to the battery. Is this the only way I can use anything with a cig. lighter plug? What is the difference?

There's no difference ... does anything else work on your boat's 12v outlet ? Any device thats 12v should work fine unless the outlet is wired incorrectly. Cell phone chargers, spotlights, pumps, etc. all work fine on the PC's 12v outlet.

On occasion, the outlets are wired backwards and it's a simple fix. Usually, center conductor is positive, side is negative.

Sometime the 12 volt cig. lighter is wired through one of the acc. switches on the console and if it is not turned on it will not work, I only remember it when something don't work.
