Length of trolling motor for Tritoon?

#1 Post by captain28570 » Wed Sep 20, 2017 7:06 pm

Just curious on what people are using. I have Manitou tritoon. The outside tubes are 23 and the center is 27. It doesn't seem to sit that high out the water. I was hoping a 54 inch would work. Rather not go to a 60 if I don't need to.

Minn Kota seems to think 48" is enough. You might look up all Minn Kota pontoon motor reviews and get a general ides about how people think that length works. It's a reference point at the least. There are also some measuring guidelines out there to consider, also how rough your usual water is.

I can't comment on shorter, but we use a 60" and it works great.

Thanks for the help. I measured some myself. I think 48 will work on a pontoon. But the Tritoons sit up higher in the front because of the center toon. They sit more stern heavy. 54 inch looks to be perfect. Any less is cutting it close.

I have a 54" on mine and have about 6" of extra length left, a 48" would put the head right on the mount. I have triple 25" tubes and where mine is set at it takes some pretty nasty waves to airate the trolling motor, aka, too much wind to be using it anyhow.

Keep in mind where you will be steering from. I have a 60" terrova and steer it from the back of the boat by remote 60% of the time. A 54" might reach the water but I would have a much more difficult tume seeing the motor head and knowing which way I'm steering.

Jediger is correct, you will want a 60" so you can see the head when steering. I had a 60" Terrova 101 and it worked out perfect.

Good luck!
