Ok yall, I got a good one for ya, I'm currently on a 6 day trip down the Mississippi. I'd like to know what RPM I should run for the best economy. I have an 18 ft with a 50 Honda 4stroke.

That's a helluva trip I'd say 3/4 throttle room for evasive manuveurs and of course not as slow as half.

Since you're going down the Miss, not up, for best fuel economy just shut the dang thing off.
Ok, Ok, maybe you have to leave it idling just in case you have to actually steer the boat.

I would think that you would need just enough throttle to allow for steering, especially since you are heading downstream. Unless you have a strict timetable.

Thanks guys, I just filled up in La Crosse Wi. I marked the hour meter, and will run at 3500 RPM's. Bucking a lot of wind so far, finally calm today! I'll post again later tonight.

Well I made it to Lansing Iowa, reminds me of Mayberry. Just picked up some supplies and started the trek back up. I'm currently sitting just below lock 8, it's beautiful out tonight, kickin'back to a captain coke and some Kenny Chesney. I'm typing from a black berry storm so this is a bit of a challenge! Will post pics when I can figure out how to go about it. BTW, just filled up, I'm burning close to1 gallon an hour. We'll see how good I do heading upstream.
