I just ordered the Humminbird 798ci Si unit for my toon and have been reading up on mounting options for the transducer.... apparently there is some special way to do it to ensure that the side imaging sonar works properly. Do any of you have these units? if so, where did you mount the transducer to get the best readings? Any of you hear of mounting dual transducers?

You should have a plate on the back of the toon to mount it too, i have 2 on one is the pump for the wet well the other is the transducer

When you do mount the transducer, please post pictures as I've been wondering the same thing.

Kaptap, from what I have read, I will need to mount 2 trensducers in order to take total advantage of the side imaging sonar. One on each outside log. With a single transducer, the outboard gets in the way and doesn't allow for a reading from the one side.

Humminbird makes a "y" splitter cable that I have ordered along with a 2nd transducer. I'm going to have the dealer do the install so I'm not sure what kind of pice I'll be able to get once it's in the water. I'll post whatever I can get though.

Only needs one transduser, but it's 1KW I hope they give you the right one with it for 800 bucks

I always thought forward-looking sonar would be the most helpful.

Every time my rear-mounted transducer told me the water was too shallow, my outboard had already let me know.

Yea one mounted foward on the toon where it wouldn't get hurt would be good for fishing too, you could shoot the bank but I don't think you would get good depth measurment though you get distance from instead.

I said more than one time I like to make a boom you could let down to put a transducer 5 foot ahead of the toon, seems like it would be easy to do.

Bruuuce, thanks for the pic! That actually looks like the same transducer that I think I'm getting with the unit. Do you have one of the Side Sonar units and if so, do you do ok wit just the one transducer?

Also, have you ever run into any isses with it "kicking up" when going above certain speeds?

I have a Humminbird 383C with the dual beam sonar, it works fine for what I use it for, which is GPS location and speed and locating the bottom of the waterway...

My top speed is 22 MPH and have never had it kick up.
