Help? dumb rookie here
Hello everyone, The wife and I just got a pontoon boat, and I don't have a clue about them.
the Bill of sale says it is a 1989 22 foot Landall Lake Raider, it does say Lake raider on the side. Where would I be able to find out more about it? did a Google search but got no where. I cant find any info plate on it other than the vin # on the rear of the pontoon.
the Deck is solid, the pontoons are in good shape and everything is structurely sound the front two fishing seats and the captains chair are in good shape. The rear bench is junk I will need to replace it and probably add some more.
the canvas on the top has a couple holes where can i get replacement, will I need to buy complete with hardware or can I just get the canvas?
It has a 35 hp evinrude and has a bear trailer, any info on these? what to look out for etc?
Will I have any problems pulling it with my 2004 Ford Explorer?
Thanks In advance for any and all help and I hope I am not being too much of a pain in the arse.

Welcome, glad to have you with us, and feel free to be a PIA, there's no dumb questions and we could proably answer all of them, because we all asked them at one time. For the top you can buy a new material for it, you don't have to buy bows and all.
As for the 2004 Ford Explorer what engine does have in it and how far to your need to go with it?

OOPS, the Explorer is a 06 not an 04 it has the 4.0 V6 and Factory tow package, the owners manual says it has a towing cap of 5800 lbs. but I have no Idea how much the boat weighs.

Re: Help? dumb rookie here
The weight will be around 3500 pounds but that's not the big problem, pontoons pull like having a parchute tied to the truck.
They catch a lot of wind and on the lake you can do 4 mph in a 5 mph wind with no engine

Re: Help? dumb rookie here
It has u shaped. the bill of sale I think has a typo and it is a landau not landall, according to the first 3 letters of the hull id it is a landau.

Re: Help? dumb rookie here
You don't have a lot of weight on your motor with the 35 HP so I would think you could have more than a few folks on the boat. Mostly your capacity is based on the size and length of your logs. My boat has approximately 3000 lb capacity for people, gear, motor etc. with 25" diameter logs.
Check out the site posted earlier in this thread and you might be able to find out more on the actual capacity.
Good luck with your new purchase and welcome to the forum.

Re: Help? dumb rookie here
Well after several emails back and forth (including a picture) with a very helpful guy at Landau it apears I have a FRANKENSTEIN. He actually worked for Voyager in 89 and says the railing is a Voyager / Lake Raider, but the hull according to the Hull ID # is really a Landau.
And after getting out a tape measure it is actually a 20 footer.

Next dumb question, other than compression, what should I check on the motor? I know it is a 2 stroke what ratio should I mix it to?

Re: Help? dumb rookie here
"MOST" 2 stroke outboards have a mix ratio of 50-1. But check the mount to see if there is a tab or sticker telling you that. If it's not there, to be on the safe side, check with either the dealer or the manufacturer.Ray Jr. wrote:Next dumb question, other than compression, what should I check on the motor?
