Portable tank users: how long is your fuel line?

I just had a holiday weekend annoyance: bad leak at tank connector had me sucking air & had to limp back to the dock. Had to run to town for an overpriced fuel line & bulb. Which was defective & wouldn't build pressure. Back to town to buy JUST the ends to repair my too-old hose, and that works.
I'm hoping to return the defective hose assembly.
The new assembly was about 8 feet long. Does everyone use these as-is or shorten one end?

My boat is set up with (4) 6 gallon portable tanks for a Yamaha 115 hp 4 stroke. I have it set up for two tanks on each side for long trips, so my total fuel line length 7' or 8'. My motor pulls 9+ gallons/hr when running wide open and I have never experienced any fuel starvation.

So it appears the majority leaves it long. LOL
In other gas-powered pursuits it's normal to make the fuel line as short as possible. Isn't fuel vaporization a concern if the excess sun-soaked hose is just coiled up on the platform or in the pod?

I agree with your logic, but my narrow window of experience hasn't seen a problem with 3/8" line on a 115hp running wide open - with ambient temperatures close to 100 F.
The longest run to my outer tanks needs about 6' in order to route the line cleanly and secure it. The remainder is slack for strain relief. If you have a coil of excess fuel line, I would likely trim it in the interest of neatness

Long fuel lines never created any problems for me any of the times I had a boat that required the use of one...
