Pontoon Boat & Deck Boat Forum

I guess that stuff is rubber, not real sure what it is. Anyway its the plastic/rubber type stuff that you walk on, on the deck of some pontoons. Mine has that, and carpet. You probably know what I'm talking about, it has a pebbled texture. Anyway, I unfortunately have to store my boat outside. And while I do have a cover, part of this flooring I'm talking about sticks out of the cover. I'm going to be getting a better cover, but for now I've got to deal with this issue. The sun has faded this flooring, and I'd like to restore it back to its original color. Or at least, something close to the original color. Some of the higher spots on the pebbled texture, have actually turned white. The higher pebbles, I guess. You have to look closely, but you can see the white spots.

What kind of paint or coating can I use that will hold up over time? Seems like options would be limited. Or would they? Its a subject I'm not well versed in.

Ok after reading your description I'd say you are talking about a vinyl flooring vs. The newer sea grass woven type of floor covering. The u.v. is tough on that stuff. The fake teak floors I had on my old boat faded but luckily ended up looking like "weathered" teak.

As far as restoring it I'm not sure exactly how to go about that. You could paint it but getting paint to stick to a vinyl surface is the issue. I'd look around on sites like overtons , wholesale marine, west Marine etc for a deck paint. I'm sure something exists, but not sure off the top of my head. Whatever you do prep is everything, follow the paint MFG instructions exactly.

it does sound like a textured vinyl floor. Besides replacing it i don't know how you would be able to restore it. I would think painting it would only temporarily work, i would be worried about it getting scratched up over time and making it look worse.

Sounds like replacement is the best way to go. Which I'm not totally opposed to, I know that all boats need this kind of thing from time to time.

Honestly maybe the outdoor plastic spray krylon has may work? It works on plastic outdoor furniture.

Prep work, wash/scrub an area then dry and alcohol wipe down ( dont use acetone (may melt it) or mineral spirits ( will leave oily surface) why not, its a $5 try plus muscles

I'd get a template kit from SeaDek and have a piece custom cut for the bow.
