Stalling when putting in gear...just filled up with gas

I just got our brand new toon about 2-weeks ago and filled it up with gas for the first time. I left the gas pump and within the no wake zone (low rpms) went about 500 yards to our boat slip. While manuvering into our slip, when I put the engine into forward or reverse, the engine stalled. This happened about 6-8 times. I went back into the open water and drove for a couple of minutes and then docked the boat without the engine stalling. Any ideas what may have caused the engine to stall the first go around? Anything I should check?
Perhaps it was that I added new gas but didn't get the RPMs high enough and/or didn't let the engine warm up with the new gas? We were docked at the pump for about 30 minutes, but had been running the engine for an hour or so before filling up. Thanks all for our comments.

I would do anything until I called the dealer if he is open. Its brand new. Some like to blame the victim.

Since we don't what motor you have OB or I/O carbed or injected, 2stk or 4stk it is hard to say.
I suspect you might have been running rich as engine was cold. My Merc is cold natured and tends to run kinda rough until warmed up. Also could be low fuel pressure

I'm a rookie! I meant outboard. Once I learn all these boating terms I'll be better off.

Possibly a plugged gas tank vent? Does the bulb remain full of fuel during these problems?

Yep == I was going to ask about the bulb. Not real hard to get a leak in one. Could be as simple as the factory didn't tighten everything.

Was your motor cold when you left the gas dock?
Could be it is not choking/rich/lean settings when your engine is cold. Have your dealer check it out.
What RPM does your motor idle?
Perhaps the idle speed is not set properly. Again, have your dealer check it out since it's brand new.

Went back tot he boat today and checked the fuel bulb...it was rather soft, so I squeezed it about 10 times and it worked like a champ all day...new owner panic over! Thanks all for your feedback!

Dealers love those plastic hose clamps. I recomend everywhere you have a line connection replace with 2per connection SS hose clamps

kaptap nice to hear you got it figured out! Get that 1st season under your belt and you'll be a pro at it.
Loyd, good advice as always. I just replaced the factory gas line and discovered no clamp at all at the tank fitting. It was just pressed up on the barb of the fitting! No wonder the bulb never really felt tight!!

Just a ? i have a 75 yammy and never I mean never touched the bulb. what i was told was to turn the key on weight till you here the initial beep then start the motor this gives the fuel pump enough time to pressurize the line. At least that is what my dealer told me the bulb is just there if you were to run the motor out of gas. That is the only time you should ever have to pump it that that is because it is easier on the fuel pump
