Info for Clearwater Florida area needed

#1 Post by albow » Tue Aug 25, 2020 10:38 am

We're planning on cruising the intracoastal around Clearwater next month and beaching it on Caladesi and other islands there. I'm looking for tips concerning navigation, things to watch out for, places to beach the toon and so forth. I have a gps depthfinder onboard but it's also sitting 24 feet behind the front of the boat. We're also possibly boating the intracoastal around Daytona another day so I'll take pointers for that area along with inshore fishing tips there in case we do, down to Titusville too. While I'm at it, I'll take tips on bass fishing Toho for a day too. It's set up for fishing, except I don't have a trolling motor, so I'll need to anchor or drift fish.

I suggest you invest in some local paper charts so you don't need to rely on your depth sounder till its too late. Cheers

stay close to the channels. some are not very forgiving.
Awesome area to boat in, however, there are quite a few no wake zones south of Clearwater so on hot days it can be brutal.
North, not too bad at all.
If you stop and the sand looks pink, move on. Thats the red algea that is not so good for you.
I am the guy at the boat ramp that gives you dirty looks when you are a complete idiot and too stupid to know it.

South of Daytona, Ponce Inlet area is good with lots of sand bars, north of Daytona towards St Augustine is good to. Daytona not so much. Lots of not so clear shallow water.

Thanks, all. I didn't see your replies because I didn't get a notification. Any suggestions on where to put in? Can I leave my trailered boat there for a few hours afterward while we go to the pier at Clearwater?

Thanks Bansil. Is the icw log an internet site? I've already been cross posting to thehulltruth because you never know when you are going to get a reply on a site or not. Hope the weather holds out next week!!!! Sally just gave Gulf Shores and Orange Beach a hell of a beating with storm surge. Boats strewn everywhere on tv.

there is an awesome ramp just south of clearwater beach right next to a causeway over the water with tons of parking. You could easily leave it there for a while. Probably would not leave it overnight.
