Help me identify this wiring please

#1 Post by jasindude1 » Sun Oct 18, 2020 2:36 pm

Just got my pontoon back from being re-upholstered. I have a 88 Bass buggy, it’s new to me, me n the wife are gonna take it to the lake tomorrow, I noticed this wiring on the back where the pump and sonar are and I can’t for the life of me think of what it might be too, any help would be greatly appreciated. It’s at the top of the log the round piece with the loose wires. Image[/img]

Just a wild guess and I sure don't know why it would be done that way but the colors might suggest an attempt at some type of brake/tail light setup?

Can't tell too much from the pic, but checking the wire colors against a chart may help lead you to the answer. It might be wiring from an old set up - motor, accessories, etc.
From what little I can tell from the pic, it looks like there's a green, orange, black... maybe more.

See if this is of any help. There are other charts online. The colors are the same, but some may have more detail.

Well it went go, beautiful day on the lake, the boat didnt sink, we realized the gauges didnt work, well the tach or speed didnt, voltage did. No stereo, no front lights. The engine was super temperamental. Noticed the choke solenoid didnt work, had to try and tune it quite a few times, thought i had it dialed in and then it would act up again, im prob gonna post another forum for the engine issues. Besides that, made a list of the items we needed, i think by spring should have everything fixed or replaced and ready for summer. Even with all the issues, never got left stranded and had a fun day of fishing =) i have read tho that outboards are notorious for acting up, so might look into buying a newer EFI 4 stroke engine.

Probably got junk in carbs so jets etc are clogged up. Or simply a bad carb/intake gasket can give problems
...

Good to hear you had a great time..unfortunately I see it wasn't a loose wire on Flux capacitor

Damn it man

mgarvie might be right. It might be part of the wiring harness from an earlier set up. I tried blowing up your picture and it looks like there might be a grey wire hiding in there. That would normally be the tach wire. Check the wiring runs from your gauge panel and other fixtures to make sure they go somewhere.

Motor issues I am NO help with.
