Last weekend It finally happened dead battery trying to leave our new favorite cove! I know I should've got that jump pack... At least I carry cables for the last 13 years. The Warden wasn't on lake and none of the boats driving by could see or hear us. So The captain made the call to bust out the 3 piece rubber raft oar and start heading to the main channel (no pics damn it!). I sat on the front of the boat with 6 adults on board and away we went. GPS had me at 1/4 of a mile with a 1/4 cross wind before a ski boat saw us. After 10 minutes we got her jumped and made it back in to the launch. All in all it was a good day. 2 of the 3 kids and mates made it out and my SIL and BIL. Past Saturday it was just Paula and I with a new battery. I did have some hinges break and after 8 years PS sent me some new ones! I love that place!

That’s exactly why I added a 2nd battery and switch to my pontoon and a 3rd one to my bass boat. We kept draining the single trolling motor battery on the bass boat fighting wind on the coast last year, so I added another DC battery and a selector switch when we got back home. My son had the main starting battery on the bass boat die recently after a night of fishing and constantly running electronics and deck lights. Fortunately, he was able to jump himself off with one of the DC batteries. We now also carry a short set of jumper cables in that boat.

Looks like fun Curtis! We have not been out on our pontoon since May. In May, one of the forklift operators at the marina damaged a major support in front of the motor while moving the boat. They admitted that it was their fault. We’re still waiting for them to get it repaired. They claim that the aluminum repairman they use keeps putting them off on repairing mine and another boat.

Man, that sucks. I'd have asked for a loaner boat a long time ago.

Craig, having a battery die on me when I'm out in the middle of the lake, miles from the launch, has always been something I worried about. a few years back I bought a JNC 660. Never needed it and to be honest, it's a little big and heavy to tote everytime we go out. But just last week, my uncle showed me a portable jump box thats about the size of a shaving kit, and weighs virtually nothing. He says it will turn over his big ol 225 Mercury.. I'd like to see that before I buy one. He said he got his at harbor frieght.

The Weego boxes seem to be popular on my lake . One of the guys in my marina has one and it started his 300 HP yamana and wasn't much bigger than a cell phone.

Hell with that! I’d hire my own repair guy and send them the bill before I’d let it go that long! Scroom! :nutkick

How to start a Mercury 40, 50, 60 hp outboard with a DEAD Battery

https://youtu.be/wi1acpT-QdY

Emergency Start

My 60hp mercury came with an emergency pull rope and I bought one for my 50hp Evinrude. Not sure how easy it would be on a 115 hp. It would be worth checking out if it's possible.
