My 96 only has a tach and my first toon didn't even have that. I had a digital multi-function gauge from a dirt bike laying around so I made a bracket and mounted it.
Now in one fell swoop I had a monitor for everything + navigation. I didn't NEED any of it, but it was nice to have.
I kept it when I sold the old Crest and I've considered installing it on my current toon but it would mean fabbing a new panel bc of the large tach hole. Just haven't been motivated enough.
I'm just curious why the boating world hasn't embraced these?

Re: Why so many gauges?
Many (if not most) new pontoons have lots of data available either on the GPS/fishfinder (Garmin, Simrad, etc) or available through a multi-function gauge available as part of the engine package

My Yamaha outboard is connected to a NEMA 2000 network, which allows me to see RPM, water temp, oil temp and pressure, voltage, and a bunch of other data on my Simrad screen.

Re: Why so many gauges?
I have a G3 with full gauges plus a Simrad factory. The Simrad wasn't networked to the outboard and was just for nav but I connected it. The higher end models did not come with any gauges just a larger Simrad. Gauges are a lot cheaper than a nice sized Simrad or other unit. One thing I did find odd is that on the models with gauges, G3 did not install an hour meter tach.
