I just brought my ‘toon back from Crystal River Marine this Wednesday.
I’d taken it up there at the end of June for a two year service, cooling line “recall,” and to get the power steering “problems” fixed that I’d had since buying it two years ago.
All the regular work was done in a day, but the Apex people (power steering system) were another story. After a month of Apex not returning even one email or voicemail from the dealer requesting warranty authorization, they found a go-between (a guy they buy a LOT of motors from/through). The guy said that “he’d get it to the right place;” and apparently he did.
Apex contacted the dealer, wanting pictures and information about the problem. They then advised that they didn’t use “that kind of cable” anymore; stating that the dealer would have to track one down, buy it; then send Apex the invoice.
Better than nothing, I suppose. The service guys wound up “building their own; with no exposed connectors, broken pins, or any way for water to get in and cause any corrosion, ever again.” I appreciated that very much; especially since it was done at no cost to me!
As far as the original power steering cable?
The service Manager told me at the outset that “it wasn’t the correct cable, had exposed connectors and broken pins, and should have never been put on that boat in the first place.” Unfortunately, the whole boat deal, and finding a motor (which took another month back then) was just a small part of the fun brought on by the whole covid debacle.
They also gave me a free boat detailing since it’d been sitting up there so long.
At least we’ll finally be able to get out in the Gulf again; if it ever quits raining down here…

I have always like your boat!
Big and ugly but we love our 1999/2000 Crest II DL with a Yamaha F115

Thanks y’all!
It’s been great so far; with nary a bobble in the power steering.
I will say that I’ve been very happy with the motor on this boat. It’s a Honda (my first), and at 1200 RPMs; it sounds like a very quiet electric motor back there. That’s the speed I run on the river, until I get out to the Gulf.
It’s pretty amazing for a 225 HP outboard.
