Deck Boat Help for Newbie

#1 Post by Ernest T » Fri Aug 28, 2009 4:48 pm

Hi, I'm in the market for my first deck boat. My plan is to buy used (1-5 years old) in the 20-22 foot range. The boat will be used 95% of the time in freshwater lakes, and will be stored dry. The boat will be used for cruising 33%, towing (wake boarder and towable) 33%, and fishing 33%. Most of the time there will be 4 people on board, with an additional 4-6 people on occasions. I have a few questions:
1. Which manufacturers are considered the most/least reliable? Are there particular boats to avoid?
2. Stern drive versus Outboard? What are the pros and cons? Which is recommeded for a first time owner?
3. Are there particular layouts that are better?
4. Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks! :donno

I had a friend who bought a deckboat that was aluminum on the bottom instead of fiberglass, it made it so he could beach it like a toon without too much worry...

I will see if I can get a brand for you! Welcome to the site! :nana
