Mercury Verado 250 HP or Yamaha for 24 ft. tri-toon
I boat at 3,500 ft. and therefore lose some HP due to altitude. I can get maintenance on either motor at the marina. The Verado is supercharged and will retain most of its HP at 3,500 ft. whereas the Yamaha will lose about 10%. Is the ease of maintenance, customer support, parts, and longevity similar for each? Was leaning towards the Yamaha but now reconsidering the Verado. Have searched this topic and cannot find too many opinions one way or the other. How should I decide if price is similar?

Both are tried and true. You might need to compare warranties along with other factors. Maintenance cost for both also

I suggest you google Mercury and Yamaha user forums. You will probably gain great insight as to maintenance, problems, performance, etc. that can assist in making the best decision. Good luck!

Both good, probably lean toward the Verado. Heard it is a real piece of work, but that was from a merc mechanic. Had three mercs no major problems.

I would look for whatever dealership is closer to provide service in case it's needed. Not every Mercury dealership is certified to perform warranty work on the Verado.

I have a 225 Verado and had no issues after 2 seasons. I had originally wanted a Yamaha but my dealer recommended the Verado due to a better hole shot. Like a motor a great deal, easy on gas (relative to motor size), very quiet and smooth. Having previously only owned 2 strokes, I am amazed at the difference to the new 4 strokes. I do agree that service is a big part of this equation.
