Water in the toons...

#1 Post by WaltF » Sun Oct 04, 2009 12:21 pm

Well.. i think there might be some water in my toons. :x
Pulled it out of the slip today and brought it back home. All went well there.
I put my ear to the toon and shoved back n forth just for the heck of it and i think i can hear some water in there..
It cant be much as the toon floats evenly and high, so it doesnt appear while in the water that there is much in there, But non the less, there shouldnt be any...

I can hear about the same kind of water sound on both toons...

Im sure Tracker will fix it cause its still under warrentee.

I notice there are 2 plugs up on the top of each toon. One towards the front, and the other about half way back.
Question. Does it hurt anything to open those up? I was thinking i might be able to try and syphon some out just to see if there is indeed some water in there. Plus if i heard a wooosh of air when i opened them, then maybe that would tell me if they are air tight.
If it's ok to open them, then do i need to apply any pressure back into them when i seal back up?

Also, are the toons all seperate sections, or baffled? Also, would having a plug welded into the bottom of the back of the toon drain out the water from the whole toon, or would a hole have to be made in each section?

Ive got all winter to figure it out.. :)

Walt our sections are completly sealed from others. Leak in one won't get to other. When my nosecone split only water in it not the rest.

Ok.. cool...
Then Im guessing they are made up of 3 sections...nose, middle, and end.

Also, BMR, i imagine i can just go to like AutoZone and get an oil filter for a 3.0 chevy? :)
Course i can run over to the boat store too..
You know the part number? I cant seem to find my book.... grrrr

Wife musta been cleaning.....

Yep they are closed sections, mine has 5. Mercruiser oil filter part number is 35-866340K01. I also use Wix filter #57099

Their site has a cross reference at http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/ ... -866340K01

I'd call Tracker right away if there's water in your logs. They might get all uppity if you start removing plugs. :nono

Warranty is supposedly lifetime on all welds.

My old toon, sanpan had the plugs in the top. The plugs had one sixteen of an inch holes drilled through them. I was told this was to prevent pressure build up. The bentley has one plug in the rear. The chambers are partitioned but have a three quarter of an inch hole in the bottom of each partition.

Thanks Guys!!!

Ill leave the toons alone for now...
Ill go ahead and winterize her, then go after the toon problem, if there is one...
Its very hard to tell if or how much water is in there....
Im going to get a stethoscope and check each section.. :)

Sure it's not the fuel tank sloshing around ? Do you have water tanks ? I ask because the aluminum deck transmits sound of the water sloshing even from my upper deck water tank and if you listen you'd swear it's coming from the logs. Until you put your ear on the log itself...

ya.. not positive!
I dont have fresh water tanks, so i know thats not it... and i do have the aluminum deck upgrade/underskinned, and the fuel tank is right there over the left toon, inside the changing room.... soo....

Gonna have to look closer at this.. hopefully i was just drunk and heard my brain sloshing the first time i checked..... :nana :nana
