Trolling motor advice

Guys, I know you have covered the topic of trolling motors many times here and I'll try to keep this one brief, I'm just looking for a little advice before making a big purchase(big to me).

I'm looking at buying the Minn Kota Magnum Power V2 Pontoon model in 70lb thrust hand control bow mount model.
http://www.minnkotamotors.com/products/ ... ontoonhand

What I'm wanting to know is:
1) Is this 70lb thrust 24v going to do the job on a 24' Suntracker?
2) Does anyone have any prior experience with this new pontoon mounting bracket offered by Minn Kota?
3) What batteries would you guys recomend for this trolling motor? I know it's going to need to be something with a lot
of cranking amps.

Thanks in advance for any input you guys have.

I can help with the batteries, you don't want no cranking amps at all, you want deep draw batteries, there made to run all the way down and while you can use them to make a quick jump start, they don't like high cranking amps.

But there perfect as they run you for a few days and you can use them for all other power and leave the cranking battery for starting only.

Herb is right on with the battery recommendation....go with the deep cycle for best battery life in your application.

I have a 55 pound thrust motor and it moves out OK on my 21 foot toon. Performance is better than I expected. I may have a similar mount... the motor clamps in place and does not tilt. I have had no trouble with the mount but I do find the hand control a little awkward, I might have preferred the remote controls model. Oh well, I wont know anytime soon because I will have to use what I have.

Good luck with your choice.

I've got 70lbs on my 24' and it moves me at about 4mph full speed. It will easily be enough.

Deep cycle.

Im thinking strap (2) 12 volt Interstate deep cycle batteries wired in series to get 24 volts.
You could cruise all over... :nana
