aluminum prop repair?

#1 Post by wed » Sun May 02, 2010 6:32 pm

I got outside the boat lane today and managed to run over a sumberged object. Bent the amuminuim prop, limped back to camp and pulled it off. Put the boat on the lift backwards to pull prop so that was easy enough. I am going to buy a stainless steel unit but I am thinking about taking the aluminum prop to the shop to see if they can repair it. Anyone out there have any experience with prop repair?

If you have a prop shop use them, I bought a new SS one and it was still a little off on pitch, he repitched, put a cup in it for me and repaired my old one too.

Think most good prop shops can do the rebuild, they might even have what you want in a ss. Places like that accumulate thing over the years.

usually $35 to $40 here to fix aluminum.

as to a stainless steel prop...

"hit with aluminum, break the prop.
hit with ss, break the gears."

your call.

Not so true! I have hit my ss prop on stumps on 5 different boats and have never damaged the lower unit, and did very little if any damage to the ss prop.

So far so good Jimrs! :nana

bet that trick wouldnt work as well on a rock though.... heh :rofl

Course with less then 150hp, why spend the money on a ss prop? The main advantage of ss is it wont 'flex' when ya run the big horses into it...

ss prop $600
al prop $95
